Pudong Campus: We Explore Science in Our Life—Science Fair
During Week 18, the Science Fair experiment video presentations, which were well-prepared by all the students from the Pudong campus, were finally displayed on LC. Our young scientists never stopped exploring science, even during the pandemic. They turned their eyes toward their every-day-life at home and found out that there was so much to explore. For example, how to store vegetables to keep them fresh longer? which is the more efficient method of planting shallots, in soil or in sugar water? does eating before bedtime affect the quality of my sleep? All these questions show students’ passion for science and their lives.
After deciding the questions and topics, students spent almost a whole month working on their experiments. They worked through their research with scientific methods we had learned in science classes: find a problem, make a hypothesis, conduct an experiment, analyze the data, and form a conclusion.
Students gave their all in their science exploration despite the lack of materials during the special time of pandemic limitations. Their works spoke loudly for themselves and told how unique their observations were.
Communication is a key step of scientific investigation since it sparks more genius ideas in the exploration of science. Therefore, the students of the Pudong campus recorded a short video presenting their experiments to give them a chance to share with their classmates. The videos were displayed on LC and enjoyed by students from different grades.
Science is not only the given facts in textbooks, but everywhere in our daily life. It is never a bad thing to have a question without an answer. Instead, the first step of our scientific research is to find such a question. Our young scientists are observing the world around them with their unique vision and obtaining a better understanding of it by carrying out their own experiments. This is the way we do science! And this is the way we explore science in our lives!
