Grades 11-12:2022 Talent Show

April 28, 2022

Even though school has been online for more than a month now, this fortunately does not stop the students from showcasing their talent in front of their peers and teachers. On April 27th, juniors and seniors gathered together in their own homeroom Tencent Meeting call during CAS class to watch a wide variety of videos previously filmed by their peers.

The online talent show included a series of vocal performances, including “Love Is an Open Door” from the Frozen (2013) soundtrack, an acapella version of “Into You” and the Wii theme song, and the classic Oasis song “Don’t Look Back in Anger”. There were also classical music performances such as “Mozart 12 Duos for Horn No. 3,” brought to the students by members from our school’s wind ensemble and string orchestra. Finally, we had a class performance from 12(8). Despite being online, the students and the teacher of class 12(8) put together a video that fully encapsulates their two years of high school and expresses their gratitude and love as a big loving family. Although students couldn’t meet offline, all group performances were very nicely edited together. Beyond music, we also witnessed several originative individual performances including a mix edit and a recording of a music game.

Lockdown life can easily get boring as the majority of the population needs to stay at home for quarantine. Nevertheless, the online talent show has provided students a platform to showcase their talent and entertain the student body. Hopefully, after watching the videos, students who are bored during lockdown can be inspired to adopt a new hobby and potentially make it their talent in the future. For seniors, this was also potentially one of the last CAS periods of their high school career. This online talent show will surely be a unique memory to the graduating class worth cherishing as they look back on to their high school life. We hope all students were able to use this time to enjoy their peers’ performances, relax, and take a break from intense online academics.
