Grade 12: UNITY
As February comes to an end, students of Grade 12 gathered in Xianmian Annex to welcome Cher from 12(9) and Katherine from 12(8) to share their work for their self-established UNITY project during the winter break and their experience of uniting people towards a meaningful cause.
On stage, Cher played a video she had edited that told the story of her growing up watching her mother battle with depression and poor mental health, the source and inspiration of her and Katherine’s initiative. The video detailed the central goal of UNITY (to increase awareness on teenage mental health in China and raise money for mental health organizations), collaborations (such as the Birding Club, CTB, Mural Committee, A to Z, Envirothon), singers (including Yangyang Hua and Katelyn Kuo), and 100+ volunteers in the school that have made this project possible.
At the end, Cher also emphasized that mental health is, no doubt, a serious matter that should not be trivialized, and that she believes that initiatives like UNITY are a first step to this cultural change that must happen. She wholeheartedly encourages any and all interested to join such a cause.
