Grade 9 Club TFE 2101 Delivered Anti-Scam Activity

November 24, 2021

On Friday, November 17th, TFE 2101 (Technology for Elders) took off at Meilong Sixth Village with their first-ever event. Along with the TFE 2101 members came the students from Affiliated Elementary School of East China University of Science and Technology (华理附小), together for a sole purpose, which was to assist and teach the elders how to download and activate the national Anti-Scam Centre app (国家反诈中心).

During the very beginning, the students from SHSID and 华理附小 divided into separate groups consisting of 3-4 members in each group. Then each group of students was sent to different areas of an activity center to teach different groups of elders at the same time.

“国家反诈中心” is an app that blocks off all the scam calls for the user. Especially during times like the pandemic, elders are the most vulnerable age group to be scammed. The app “国家反诈中心” thus helps the elders to automatically block off the scam calls once detected.

Rebecca Cao, one of the members that participated in this activity, stated, “We were very busy helping and communicating with them and I really enjoyed the productivity. There was even one elder who spoke the same dialect as my family, and I was able to have a conversation with him in our dialect, which was a rewarding and fascinating experience!” Another member, Emily Fu, stated, “This event was certainly very meaningful as it was my first time visiting an elderly care center. Being able to help the elderly is truly fascinating, and we are looking forward to future activities!”

Truly, it was an amazing experience for students to step out of their comfort zones and dedicate themselves to services in nearby communities. Every meaningful event starts small and eventually grows larger, just like their help to the elders. With such a fabulous start, TFE 2101 looks forward to their next activity.
