Grade 10: Speech on Beauty Standards and Individual Outstanding Awards

On October 27, the last assembly before midterms began, Jeremy, the assembly host, welcomed Demi to give her speech on the topic of beauty standards. Through the countless different ways with which we are pressured by beauty standards, from the unrealistic images used in advertisements to the heavy usage of makeup or plastic surgery among celebrities, Demi reminded the 10th-grade students that these are unhealthy and ludicrous standards. As a final note, she encouraged students to move past these expectations and learn to focus on improving themselves in the areas that they are each best at.

Next, in order to honor and recognize outstanding students’ performances last year in a single field or subject, they were each given a 2020 Academic Year Individual Outstanding Award. The students came onto the stage, wearing their formal attire, to accept the Scholar Awards in History, Mathematics, Chinese, Computer Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Art, and Geography. Then, three students who have shown a strong fighting spirit in their studies received the Perseverance Award. These awards are a truly wonderful way of congratulating students for all their hard work and encouraging students who did not achieve the award to try harder in the following year of Grade 10.
