Pudong Campus Grades 1-5: Fun Halloween with Fun Learning!

November 1, 2021

At the end of October, students and teachers at SHSID were all excited about celebrating a fun, spooky Halloween holiday. In celebration of Halloween, the teachers and students from the Pudong campus began preparing and decorating weeks in advance. If you visited the school last week, you might have seen a spooky tree illuminated by tiny, orange pumpkins haunting the hallway, giant spiders spinning webs in every classroom, and black bats roosting in every nook of the school… A spooky, and perhaps magical, fog seems to be covering the entire campus.

On October 28th, the spirit of Halloween took over the SHSID Pudong campus. As it is one of our favorites traditions, students and teachers came to school in all sorts of funny, creative, and scary costumes. There were groups of princesses busily walking through the halls to class, superheroes assembling to defeat evil on the playground, and all sorts of ghosts, skeletons, vampires, and witches eating lunch with one another in the cafeteria. The costumes were amazing this year!

Parties are always more exciting when friends are together! That’s why we got the whole campus together for the Halloween Parade. All the teachers and students marched in the playground to show off their amazing costumes while judges looked for the most eye-catching designs. The students with the scariest, funniest, and most creative costumes will be awarded prizes in the coming weeks.

After the parade, the highly anticipated Halloween Carnival started. While the students marched around, the teachers used their super-powers to turn classrooms into playgrounds—just like magicians. Each class showcased different Halloween-themed games and activities for the students to learn, explore and play. Bat Dance and Bat Math in the first grade were crowded with students practicing their balance and calculation skills. Second grade had Pumpkin Cubes and Pumpkin Faces for those who liked to make pumpkins with different 3D or 2D shapes. In third grade, the Dali-themed activities tested students’ planning skills and drawing abilities; while students enjoyed the beautiful scenery in fall. The teachers from fourth grade prepared traditional games such as paper cutting and music appreciation on the theme of autumn. Last but not least, fifth grade had Moon Golf and Moon Haiku for students to challenge their sports abilities and writing skills. Walking through the hallways, you could hear the excitement of celebrating such a fun holiday.

While enjoying the Halloween celebrations, the students not only had fun and learned more about the holiday, but also gained a lot of knowledge and improved different abilities and skills across subjects. They are already looking forward to our next celebration!
