Puxi Campus Grades 1-3: “Little Penguins” on the Ice Are Ready
“Let the children in south China enjoy the games that the children in the north can play.” The words are from SHS Principal Mr. Feng Zhigang two years ago. As the Zhongxing Building construction was completed and open for operation, the dream of walking on ice came into reality. Last week, on the brand-new ice rink at the Zhongxing building, Puxi campus students from grades two and three attended their first ice class.
The “Trian to the Ice World” has departed. Under the care of three teachers, 25 “little penguins” embarked on their exhilarating ice journey. Pushing open the door to the world of ice, what you see is a beautifully bright ice rink. The ice surface, neatly arranged skates, and well-protected guardrails instantly ignited the enthusiasm of these “little penguins.” Before going on the ice, it is important to take protective measures. Helmets, gloves, elbow pads, arm pads, knee pads, skates, were fully prepared. After the “little penguins” carefully stepped on the ice rink, they were surprised to find that there were “little seals” waiting for them. In order to ensure their safety and help them learn more about ice sports, the school equipped every child with these learning tools. With the explanation and guidance of professional coaches, the students began this period on the ice. There were “little penguins” who were just beginners. They clung to the hands of the little seals, followed the instructions of the coach, bent their knees to lower their center of gravity, and moved forward step by step. There were also “little penguins” who were familiar with skating, standing steadily on the ice and taking steps confidently.
As one of the important events of sports, winter sports have been difficult to promote in Shanghai due to the restrictions in terms of the venue and the weather in south China. The operation of the school ice rink allows children in the south to experience the joy children in the north do. It not only enriches children’s sports, but also enables them to learn the sportsmanship of striving, progress, and never giving up. The development of ice courses has received constant praise from parents. They are pleased to see the increasingly abundant physical education curriculum, the thoughtful care, and professional guidance the school offers. We believe that more and more “little penguins” will shortly fall in love with ice sports and show off their beautiful figures on the ice rink.
