History and Geography Department: Preparatory Meeting for the Grade 6 Chinese History Lecture
In the middle and end of September, the history and geography department held several preparatory meetings for the upcoming Chinese history lecture. Ms. Chen Lu introduced the basic idea of the lecture, the preliminary arrangement and preparation, and the need for support. This lecture is the beginning of the history lecture series, in which the lecture on Chinese history aims to select a specific aspect of the history of ancient Chinese civilization and teach students about people, events, and objects that are characteristic and influential in ancient Chinese history, so as to build students’ basic knowledge of the development of Chinese history and stimulate their awareness and interest in learning history from the shallow to the deep.
Ms. Chen Lu introduced the topic of this lecture as “The Glory and The Dream-The Stories Chinese Relics Tell,” hoping to reveal the historical stories and implications behind the representative cultural relics in the long history of China. After the presentation, the teachers discussed the detailed content of the lectures, teaching sessions, and student feedback sessions. The sixth graders are still in the beginning of their systematic study of history, and they know little about the subject. The teachers of the history and geography group made suggestions for the design of specific teaching sessions and offered valuable advice to make the lectures lively and easy to understand, to motivate students, and to guide them to combine what they have learned in class.
The event will also serve as a lead-in to encourage students to make history an everyday occurrence by visiting museums and heritage sites and making posters and videos of what they see, hear, and feel to share with other students. The event involved all sixth grade students. The preparations were heavy, and the teachers expressed their willingness to support the event. When everything was ready, Ms. Chen Lu organized the sixth grade history teachers again, communicated the details of the lecture, reminded the teachers and students of the things they should pay attention to, and ensured that the lecture would go smoothly.
