Grades 11-12: ASB Election

September 18, 2021

On September 15, the annual ASB election for Grades 11-12 kicked off in the CAS class. As usual, the moderator began with a warm welcome speech. Then, one by one, the candidates gave their exciting speeches and convinced the students to vote for them. Each person's speech was heartwarming. Some students used interesting metaphors, such as linking something they were passionate about to internet phrases. Some talked about random but fascinating hot-button issues that captured the audience's attention. Others talked about what they could bring to the school community if they were elected to the ASB, such as making the process of buying lunch easier. It is worth mentioning that one candidate campaigned from the hospital. He had to record the video from the hospital where he was due to medical reasons, but his spirit of still wanting to contribute to the school was commendable.

For the seniors, this was the last time they stood on the stage at SHSID to deliver their ASB speeches. Looking back, it was very touching to see that they did not give up and continued to run for ASB. All candidates gave speeches that were very unique to themselves and created brief yet humorous jokes along the way. The general atmosphere of the election was very exciting, where the feeling of joy outweighed the feeling of competition. The audience was also very supportive, cheering for their friends onstage throughout the event.

After the speeches were given, the ASB members even performed and entertained the audience with their comedic and musical sketches and numbers, bringing more positive energy among the crowd. One group sang Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”. Another group talked about the things that they used to love as children, taking the students back to the good old days. One group performed a musical comedy where they dressed up as characters. One candidate even performed an impressive magic show. As the annual ASB election comes to an end, the candidates all await for their election results. But being there as a candidate is already something nice to achieve.
