SHSIDers Achieved Excellent Results in the HOSA Global Competition

HOSA is a highly influential competition offered to students around the world and aims to serve as a forum to train and educate future health professionals. Established in 1976, over 2.5 million alumni who are now professionals working in medical industries and institutions or related government agencies have participated in HOSA. Furthermore, HOSA is a platform that offers a variety of more than 70 different challenges which take the form of objective tests, improvised speeches, and prepared presentations.

Due to COVID-19, the global round took the form of online tests and presentations from June 23rdto the 25th. Attendees who were promoted to the global finals either through their CE or their ATC were able to select other subjects to attend during the global finals. Moreover, HOSA made new ATC events available to competitors. However, as the global round was meant for students around the world to attend, the time difference made the competition a more exhausting process. Nevertheless, students from SHSID still received high levels of recognition, accounting for a large portion of Chinese international students who received awards in the global round of HOSA. The global round of HOSA was also exceptionally competitive this time as all attendees of the final round had won either a silver or gold award in the national round of their respective countries. However, only the top ten scoring attendees will receive an award in the global round, while only the top three will receive additional recognition.

In the end, SHSID’s students received a total of 3 finalist awards, one 2ndplace, and one 3rdplace. SHSID students did particularly well in the field of behavioral science and were the only three Chinese students who became the finalists in the global round from China. Achievements in the ATC events were also quite impressive and contributed to the making of a miraculous result.
