Summary of 3D Printing Club Activities

In this semester, the 3D-Printing Club has made some new attempts. Different from last semester, this semester, they have not only made progress in industrial modeling, but also set foot in the field of artistic modeling and conducted in-depth study. Art modeling is specially designed for Art 3D design. Compared to industrial-modeling software, art-modeling software pays more attention to the details of the model surface, can make more complex surfaces, and is often used for interior-design (decoration) and character-model (manual) production. Secondly, art-modeling software can export. Obj-format files are used for 3D-animation production. The commonly used art-modeling software on the market include ZBrush, Maya, 3DMAX, etc. WThe club has also made some models and 3D printed them.

The figure showed below is one of the works the club made during this period. This model was independently developed and designed by them, and the inspiration of the model came from the author of "Two Pieces of Bread with Cheese" and the expression pack of "一只大哈鱼". Taking it as the prototype, the members designed and constructed the model. Then they used the FDM 3D printer for printing. Because it was not light-curing printing, they could not get a relatively flat surface. They implemented a 3D printing-polishing solution (acetone) for surface polishing, and finally chose acrylic pigment for coloring.

As the new 3D competition is coming soon, the club has uploaded their latest preliminary works and intends to create more for the submission of works for the second round of the competition during the summer vacation. At the same time, each of the club members will exchange and study on his or her own in summer to prepare for the second design. At the same time, they will also summarize the shortcomings of previous preliminary work, and then make effective improvements.
