Grade 7: Karaoke Contest

What is one of your hidden talents? On a soggy afternoon of May 13th, SHSID hosted a karaoke contest among the seventh graders. The hosts of the contest were Katharina from 7(7), Cassie from 7(9), Andrew from 7(12), and Dereck from 7(12). Our student judges were Austen from 7(1) and Jerry from 7(3). The enthusiasm of the students who were sitting in the auditorium of XianMian Building ignited the atmosphere and gave performers the courage to reveal their talents.

Apart from studying, exploring our passion is also an essential part of our lives that may lead to a brighter future. The seventh-grade teachers especially prepared this entertaining activity, allowing students to find what interests them. There were sixteen performances in total, including teacher and student performers. At last, teachers also gave a surprise performance for all students.

The songs performed by the participants had a wide range of genres, from rock music to jazz to pop songs. Never Going to Give You Up, sung by Aidan, Andrew, and Genevieve, gave audiences the motivations to keep trying for your desires and never give up. The most seemingly enjoyable performance given was by the students of class 7(5), with Mr. Johnson. They performed a remix of popular songs from the Chinese version of Tik Tok, as well as popular songs that reminded us of our childhood. Not only did they take turns to sing, but they also danced to the music. This grabbed the audiences’ attention even more. All in all, the amazing voices of the participants surprised the audiences.
