SHSIDers Performs Outstandingly at the HOSA National Rounds
HOSA-Future Health Professionals has around 44 years of history. It has been certified by the U.S. Department of Education along with hundreds of top medical companies and is one of the few members of the American Association for Life Planning Education. Around the globe, HOSA has reached more than 5,600 schools, has had more than 250,000 students participate, and has affected more than 2.5 million students, allowing them to explore their interests in this field and giving them the chance to have more insights into the medical field.
From April 23rd to the 25th, SHSID students headed to Nanjing for the National Leadership Conference (NLC). This year's National Leadership Conference was centered around the theme "Unlock Your Potential". The NLC not only created further challenges for participants, but also provided students with more diverse insights into certain areas of the medical field through workshops, the HOSA Expo, lectures, and a social event. The NLC consisted of CEs: Pathophysiology, Nutrition, Behavioral Health, CPR/First Aid, Biomedical Lab, and Epidemiology, along with a few other Public Welfare projects such as 30-second PSAs, presentations, Public Health, Health Education, and Public Serve Announcements. The NLC also had 5 ATC events: Biology, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, and Physics.
The awards ceremony presented many awards, from bronze, silver, and gold medals to national Top-3 awards. SHSID students performed outstandingly, receiving 4 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 16 bronze medals. In addition, 4 students won the first place, and 3 students won the second place nationwide. And out of the nearly 200 participants who were able to advance to the global round, 13 were outstanding students from SHSID. The HOSA Club at SHSID, which supported students along their way by helping them prepare for regionals and nationals, also received an Outstanding Leader Award and a Pioneer Club Award.
Both the regional and the national rounds have been exciting and have allowed these students to learn even more about different interesting topics and subjects within the medical field. It has exposed them to subjects that were unfamiliar to them in the past, and has taught them bigger concepts that have created a stronger understanding of subjects. They are looking forward to the global round, and hope to continue to thrive there.
