Grade 6: Speech Competition

April 30, 2021

On April 29, 2021, the 6th grade English speech contest was held in the school auditorium. A month ago, every 6th-grade student drew different speculative topics and gave a speech on this topic in English class. Then, the top performance from each class progressed to the second round. Finally, four students entered the final through rounds of selection.

The finalists were all eloquent and passionate, and each speech was written carefully with clear logic and strong arguments. Milly 6(3) argued that gym class should be mandatory, stating that gym class can not only exercise your physical strength but can also cultivate team spirit and sharpen your mind. Kevin 6(3) spoke about why physical and mental health is equally important. Hans 6(7) defended why children should be allowed to read grown-up books, adding that interest is the source of curiosity and learning; a broader range of reading materials could help children distinguish right from wrong and overcome challenges in today’s world. Yoyo 6(2) talked about the benefits of a 4-day school week, citing research to demonstrate how such arrangements are beneficial to schools, teachers, and students. The excellent performances won applause and cheers from the judges and audience.

Last, 8(3) Milly was awarded first place in S/S+, and 8(2) Yoyo was awarded first place in H/H+. The winners then randomly selected lucky audience members to receive beautiful gifts prepared by the school. Thank you to all student participants for providing such an engaging competition; in addition, thank you to the ASB members, teachers, and staff working behind-the-scenes for making the event such a success!
