Grade 11: Experience in Syrian Refugee Camp

During April 15th's Assembly, Helen Wu recounted her unforgettable journey. Before the COVID-19 period, she got the chance to visit a refugee camp near Syria. The first camp was located in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. This is the place where most of the refugees fled to because of the Syrian Civil War. She had the chance to ask them how they had escaped. One of the refugees told her that it had been a difficult journey during which he had carried his children and wife and had to walk a long way until they finally reached the camp. The conditions inside the refugee camp were quite rudimentary. There were only two bathrooms throughout the whole refugee camp, and the whole camp was in unsanitary conditions.

After the visit, Helen returned to school and took action through a club called Arms of Love. They give lectures for primary and middle school students, raise funds for the refugee camps, and write articles about the life of refugees. Helen hoped that more students can find chance to take actions to improve the living conditions of people with misfortune.
