Puxi Campus Grades 1-3: A Feast of Pi

March 14, 2021

Pi is expressed as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and it is one of the most basic, significant, and mysterious mathematical constants. On March 12th, grades 1-3 math teachers from the Puxi campus prepared a feast of Pi for all students to enjoy this unique event.

Our G1 students created a Pi skyline by graphing the digits of Pi using a bar graph format. All projects were creatively designed with strong use of color, full of childlike innocence and imaginative thoughts.

G2 students all went outside with their iPads to complete a Pi hunt. They needed to find 10 Pi objects at school and make a poster via Keynote to share with others. They ran around everywhere to look for their targets and exclaimed with joy once they found one.

G3 completed a challenging individual project. They needed to do some research on their own, answer all questions on printed-out pentagons correctly, and then make a hollowed-out pentagon ball. During the whole process, they used different senses to discover and solve the problems, in which they experienced the profound beauty of math.

G1-3 all worked together and completed a huge project about Pi. We warmly welcome you to check it out at the primary section building!

In this carnival, Pi was all about fun, imagination, mysteries, challenges, and explorations. We saw all of the students greatly enjoyed and learned from this experience. We hope they continue to discover and grow in this math journey!
