February 25, 2021

Organized by China Computer Federation (CCF), the 2021 National Olympiad of Informatics’ Winter Camp (NOI 2021 Winter Camp) was successfully held from February 1st to 6th.This winter camp was an online activity with participants from over 25 provinces. Du Zide, Secretary of CCF and Chairman of NOI and Mr. Zhao Hongqing, Principal of Yuyao Middle School of Zhejiang Province, attended and made a speech. Among the students, Michel Guo and Tiger Ding, two Grade 10 students from SHSID, participated in this winter camp.

This NOI winter camp was divided into two classes which were carried out simultaneously. The topics of the two classes included data structure, random algorithm, mathematical expectation, discussions of classical questions, etc., involving much interdisciplinary knowledge from many subjects. In terms of lecturers, there were Jiang Tingting, the vice chairman of the NOI Scientific Committee, professors from the University of Waterloo, IOI gold medalists, and NOI Diamond coaches. The high-quality teachers provided an excellent learning experience.

On February 5th, the campers had the NOI competition. After the competition, there were a total of 148 gold medals, 267 silver medals, and 416 bronze medals. Among them, Michel Guo from SHSID won the bronze medals.

At winter camp, teachers taught many advanced programming algorithms, showing students other possibilities for them. For example, random algorithms and parallel algorithms were new ideas that students had never thought of before. At the same time, the teachers connected the programming questions with mathematical logic which reflected the combination of logical deduction and programming. In short, at this winter camp, students gained a lot of new knowledge and realized that they still had a lot of progress to make.
