History and Geography Department: A Field Trip to the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum
On the afternoon of January 20, Middle and High School History and Geography teachers paid a visit to the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum. High-school history teachers organized lectures, historical play performances, and volunteer guides training on the topic of “the Jewish People in Shanghai” during previous years. Since the museum had finished its expansion at the end of the last year, teachers took the opportunity to review the history through advanced technology such as scenario reconstruction, interactive multimedia, and other display methods. The guide led teachers to experience the history of the Jewish refugees in Shanghai and how they and their Chinese neighbors helped each other in adversity, overcoming difficulties together through a large number of original documents and videos.
Museum-visiting is a good way to learn history. It is also the responsibility for history teachers to think of how to help their students learn more about the history around them like the history of Shanghai, the city they live in. Maybe in the future under the guidance of their teachers, the students will be more engaged into the construction of the public history, playing the role of the storytellers about their city.
