Puxi Campus Grades 4-5: Art Festival

December 18, 2020

In sparkling Christmas flare, Puxi Campus Grade 4 and 5 held the annual Art Festival on December 18th. This time, online live streaming was also provided for parents who couldn’t enjoy the performance in person.

There were 30 performances in all, covering a wide variety of talent and showcasing the artistic abilities of our students. Dancing performances included pop dance “How You Like That”, folk dance “Happy Birdsong”, ballet dances “Silver Fairy” and “Carrot”, hip-hop routines, and Latin dance performances. The exhilarating performances gained waves of applause from the audiences. The singing performances were fascinating as well. Students dazzled us with a song in both English and Chinese, with songs like “You Raise Me Up” and “Prelude to Water Melody”. Their voices showed great energy and power. Piano, violin, recorder, saxophone, Zheng (a type of traditional Chinese instrument) were all performed at the art festival with beautiful sounds echoing in the auditorium.

During the interval, Mr. Liu, the middle and primary school principal, Ms. Bao, the middle and primary school vice principal, along with the Santa Clause, attended the art festival and hosted the lucky draw for the students. All were so excited about the lottery and applauded the winners.

The last performance was from our teachers! Foreign teachers performed the song “All I Want for Christmas is You”, filling up the auditorium wih Christmas spirit. Chinese teachers performed with dancing and singing in traditional Chinese style. The song from Principal Liu raised the roof, and the last performance “The Nation of Etiquette” showed the culture of China. In this performance, teachers and students worked together: teachers’ singing and dancing with Chinese fans and bamboo flutes showed the artistic side of our teachers, while students’ martial art, singing and dancing, and the playing of the Zheng added extra spice to the performance.

The successful art festival wouldn’t be possible without students’ dedication, teachers’ organization, and parents’ support. All the students were on the stage so that they were able to experience the excitement, develop self-confidence, and improve their teamwork. Students who performed individually designed and prepared their routine on their own, greatly practicing their talents.

Individual performer 5(3)Alexandra:

“I am a beginner when it comes to wind music. The mini orchestral band experience gave me a sense of belonging and accomplishment. Music is a powerful way to express happiness. Now, I have a new understanding of ‘music is the art of thinking with sounds’. ”

4(3) Elisa, Yuki, Anja, Jessica:

“This experienced taught us that hard work gets rewarded! We often used our lunch break time and time after dismissal to practice. During the process, there were some drawbacks. However we aimed at the same goal and worked as a team, and finally, we delivered a great performance on stage!”

In the festive season, we wish all the children happiness and joy from art!
