Middle and Primary School English Department: English Reading Week

December 2, 2020

First-grade students have covered many new topics and learned new writing styles during their English classes in November. They also had a fun-packed few days for Reading Week. They learned about common and proper nouns as well as irregular plural nouns. Students also considered an author’s purpose and analyzed it to decide whether it was to persuade, to inform, or to entertain. The writing topic this month was letter writing which the students thoroughly enjoyed. They wrote letters to their teachers, friends, and to book characters. Some students even got a special surprise and received a letter from their parents, making them very pleased. New reading stories this month were “At Home in the Ocean” and “How the Leopard Got His Spots.” Reading Week was the highlight of the month. The theme was “Unlocking the Mysteries of a Good Book” and the week consisted of many fun activities all themed around mysteries. The students even came to school costumed as their favorite book characters. They all did a great job; teachers and students almost didn’t recognize each other!
