Primary Section: Clean the Plate Campaign

World Food Day is an international holiday celebrated every year on October 16th. To raise awareness of food waste and develop a habit of reducing it, the SHSID primary section launched a “Clean the Plate Campaign” together with Sodexo, aiming to guide students to recognize the importance of not wasting food and truly cherish our best basic needs in life.

From November 16th to 20th, every time a student cleaned their plate, they would receive a coupon. Four coupons could be exchanged for a prize from Sodexo. Meanwhile, Sodexo donated one RMB for each clean plate to help those who are suffering from hunger and ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.

With encouragement from teachers and influence from peers, each child treated this very seriously and tried their very best to empty their plates. Within only one week, food waste was reduced significantly. It was also of vital importance that the good quality of cherishing food seems to have embedded in all the children’s hearts. On the last day of the campaign, when kids finally got a prize through the week’s efforts and took a group photo with a cartoon character, their faces all beamed with pride and joy!

Through this activity, we sincerely hope all kids in the SHSID primary section can turn this lesson into action and influence more people around them to make the whole world a better place to live!
