Pudong Campus: Around the World in 60 Minutes

November 19, 2020

During the PG class on November 17th, students at Pudong campus, from G1 to G5, had their long-anticipated Geo Fair. Ms. Bao, the middle and primary school vice principal, and Ms. Miao, the middle and primary school principal’s assistant, came all the way to Pudong campus and joined our event with the students.

Our teachers and students have prepared for this event for quite a long time. For the Geo Fair, each class chose a unique country and prepared awesome activities to attract young travelers from all grades to their countries. Big national flags and cool facts about the countries were put on display before the fair. The hosts representing each country did everything they could to ensure the travelers had a fun and educational experience.

During the Geo Fair time, our students took their Geo Fair passports and traveled through 10 different countries—India, Mexico, Ireland, Denmark, Morocco, Japan, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the Netherlands.

They all enjoyed examples of cultural expression such as Bollywood Dancing from India and River Dancing from Ireland. Students also had fun seeing examples of cultural artifacts like mirrors from Mexico, giant windmills from the Netherlands, mysterious ancient hieroglyphs from Ethiopia and Egypt, and a Viking alphabetic decoder. Just as memorably, students additionally viewed a Persian Spices Museum, henna tattoo art from Morocco, and Geisha face painting from Japan.

It was such a fun activity for our students to travel around the world without leaving our teaching building! In this one-hour fair, they had fun traveling, gained knowledge of geography, and received souvenirs from all the represented countries. Still, what is most important is that these students experienced the diversity of cultures all over the world and are growing to be better global citizens.
