October 23, 2020

Autumn is the most beautiful season in Shanghai! From October 20th to 23rd, students from every grade of the SHSID Pudong Campus went off campus to explore the wonderful scientific world that exists in beautiful nature.

Students from grades one to three went to Zhangjiang Art Park to carry out some fun activities related to “Plant Exploration”. Each student had a journal book and needed to record the characteristics of the plants they observed in the park. On the lawn, under the trees, and by the lake, they looked everywhere and couldn’t wait to share their discoveries with their classmates and teachers! In addition to learning science, they also had some activities related to mathematics and English such as searching for symmetrical items in the park and a word-search game. Everyone enjoyed these activities and the bright autumn sunshine in the park!

The fourth and fifth grade students went to the Pudong Software Park and enjoyed many outdoor activities with different themes. The fourth graders carried out the activity “Mapping Properties of Matter,” which involved looking for different forms of energy in the park including electrical energy, kinetic energy, potential energy, and mechanical energy. Under the guidance of their teachers, the students marked the locations of the energy types on the map and also observed the changes of the state of matter around them. The fifth grade students were given magnifying glasses, notebooks, and worksheets to explore the biodiversity of the park in greater depth. While searching for traces of various living organisms, the students discussed their discoveries and questions with their teachers and peers. They all learned a lot and applied their knowledge of science, biology, and geography!

From walking about three kilometers, the students have also learned about the importance of perseverance. After working together with their partners in the activities, they also learned the importance of teamwork. By exploring nature, they have enjoyed the scientific mysteries of this beautiful world. Everyone gained a great deal of knowledge and happy memoires during this field trip!
