Grade 12: University Introduction Session
On October 12th, SHSID invited Alex Hu, the International Admissions Officer from the University of Connecticut, to introduce the senior applicants to the campus. On the opening page, “Huskies”, the mascot of the University of Connecticut, welcomed the audience with the following presentation.
Delving into the geography of the campus, Alex began to present the advantages of enrolling at UConn: the convenience of its geographic location, situated in-between the states of New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island has offered its students and graduates sufficient working opportunities. In addition, the presenter offered an insight into its academic excellence in areas such as sports management as well as the actuary major. The basketball team of UConn with the aid of sports management major has won multiple honors in NCAA basketball tournaments and introduced various famous players into the WNBA. Academic excellence in the actuary major was built upon the steady insurance industry that built the foundation of the state of Connecticut. Besides its academic excellence, the campus is also well known for its low student-to-faculty ratio, the assisted security within the campus, and the campus climate that consists of various student associations, clubs, fraternities, and sororities.
The admissions officer, on behalf of the University of Connecticut, welcomed students from SHSID to apply to the school and apply for scholarships. After the session, the students had a deeper understanding of the University of Connecticut and similar public universities in the US.
