Grade 10: Sharing about Sport Interest

June 18, 2020

In the third week of June, Annie Zeng from class 10 (6) shared her interests and club life with the peers. Annie has been interested in sports and photography since childhood. After participating in taking pictures of many people playing frisbee, she started to play "ultimate frisbee". In the first semester of grade 10, Annie transferred to SHSID, where she had the opportunity to meet a group of friends who love sports and would like to challenge themselves. Then, Annie started her “Frifri” journey—starting an ultimate frisbee club to introduce the sport to SHSID.

It was not easy to operate a club, especially for a newcomer. After putting up posters, Annie found lots of students from grade 9 to grade 12 who would like to learn about frisbee. At the beginning of the semester, the training session occurred once a week, but later people came every day to play frisbee beside the Zhongxin Lake. Annie introduced rules, throwing strategies and tactics to everyone. At first, they couldn't even pass the disk continuously to each other. After months of training, Annie contacted SUIS and the teachers to hold a friendly game. As a new team, they were able to score lots of points, which gave the club members a lot of motivation. Later, they spent their weekends playing frisbee with various players in Shanghai.

In addition to training, Annie interviewed each member about their thoughts, suggestions, and expectations. Everyone felt that the club is like a big family and they learned a lot of skills, especially the ones eager to make frisbee a varsity sport. Annie began preparing applications in hopes of growing the frisbee club into a varsity sport at SHSID. Outside of school, Annie participated in the league games in her spare time. After constant training, she won the MIP of the team.

Frisbee is not limited to the club, but has spread throughout the campus. You can see people playing frisbee in every corner of the school. Even during the fifteen-minute break, some students are practicing frisbee skills on the lawn.

Just like the frisbee spirit of "respect, unity, love and communication", Annie will continue to spread the frisbee spirit and aim to ultimately become a member of the national team.
