May 3, 2020

Flowers are blooming in May, and the epidemic situation in China is gradually getting better. Shanghai High School “Online Talent Competition” was initiated in March and lasted nearly a month. It attracted nearly 400 students from both the international division and the local division. In the competition, students present their full energy, engagement, and excellent performance.

The online competition consists of five categories, among which many of the works are of certain artistic quality. Dance competition covers ballet, classical music, popular music, Latin music and other styles with rich contents, and the performing space is from living room to balcony; students’ dedication to the art is very impressive. In vocal competition, students express their feelings in a variety ways—from pop songs to art songs, from self-accompany singing to anti-epidemic songs. In instrumental competition, students display their musical talents by playing both western and traditional Chinese musical instruments, such as pianos, strings, guitars, drum sets, Guzheng, Pipa, bamboo flutes, Xun, many more. Through original compositions including electronic music, archaic music, pop music, anti-epidemic songs, etc., students convey their strength and warmth and show their talents of independent creation. “When Drama Expressions Meets Classical Music” Drama Competition has become the highlight of the online competition. The contestants use their imagination and create characters by considering how they look, sound and move; it is also astonishing that students have exquisitely integrated classical music into the story.

After fierce competition, we have selected winners for first, second, and third prize and several awards of excellence for each category. The Online Talent Competition successfully concluded. It enriches students’ learning experiences at home and provides them with the opportunity to show themselves. It will definitely become an unforgettable memory for both teachers and students in this special period.
