Stallions Got Redemption
The Stallions are heading back to the Jr NBA Finals after beating Jiaozhong in a grueling semi-final showdown 99-93. Ever since the league’s inception in 2017, the SHSID Stallions men’s varsity basketball team has advanced to all 4 championship games.
In every single semi-final game since 2017, the Stallions showed the hustle and heart it takes to climb into the top ranks. After losing their regular season game to Jiaozhong 115-84 at home, Coach Lawman and the Stallions knew that they would need to do a lot of work to overcome the mistakes that cost them their 36-19 lead in the second quarter, which resulted in a crushing defeat.
On Dec 13th, more than 100 fans, composed of students, teachers, and parents, traveled across Shanghai to cheer for the Stallions. Captain Jimmy Chen enjoyed a record-breaking night on Friday, breaking the Shanghai High School basketball record for single points in a game with 54. The guard came through again and again for the Stallions, making one big play after another and was instrumental in the team’s 28-11 3rd quarter that saw the SHSID boys go up by 17 points.
Another big contributor was UK native Kane Daley, who notched a monster double-double of 31 points and 26 rebounds, epitomized by a fast break dunk in the fourth quarter that had the Stallion faithful jumping out of their seats.
The Stallions know that the job is not yet done and are looking ahead to their 3rd straight championship match-up against defending champions Nanmo, which will take place on January 12th at Shanghai University (Baoshan).
