G6: Career Day Lecture

November 2, 2019

On October 31, the 6th graders enjoyed several career lectures from guest speakers who are esteemed professionals in their fields.

First, the students welcomed Ms. Ouyang, a scholar from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). She talked about bioscience and the study of proteins. Then Ms. Liu, an associate professor at the Fashion & Art Design Institute at Donghua University, shared the most memorable experiences of her career with the students. This helped the students understand what successes and challenges fashion design may bring. Ms. Liu pointed out that the textile industry is one of the most polluted industries in the world, so recycling material is incredibly important. She encouraged students to donate unwanted clothing, which will not only reduce waste and pollution, but also help those in need. This was followed by a wonderful presentation from Ms. Yang about animation production. Ms. Yang has worked in the cultural media industry for 20 years and recently shifter her attention to the animation. She began with the question, “What is animation?” and provided many vivid examples about the three steps in the animation process. Following Ms. Yang’s lecture were excellent presentations about accounting and artificial intelligence (AI) by Ms. Zhu and Mr. Qiao. Ms. Zhu clearly and concisely discussed the field of accounting for the students. Mr. Qiao then discussed the application and development of AI in China. His lecture stimulated curiosity and imagination, so that the students could gain a deeper understanding of AI technology.
