Pudong Campus: What a Spooktacular Day！

At the end of October, the students and teachers of SHSID were all excited to celebrate the spookiest of holidays, Halloween. In celebration of Halloween, the teachers and students from Pudong campus began preparing and decorating weeks in advance. If you visit us this week, you might see a spooky tree illuminated by tiny, orange pumpkins haunting hallways, giant spiders spinning webs classrooms, and black bats roosting in every nook of the school… A spooky, and perhaps magical, fog seems to be covering the entire campus.

On October 29th, the spirit of Halloween took over SHSID Pudong campus. As it is one of our favorite traditions, students and teachers came to school in all sorts of funny, creative, and scary costumes. There were groups of princesses busily walking through the halls to class, superheroes gathering together to defeat evil on the playground, and all sorts of ghosts, skeletons, vampires, and witches eating lunch with one another in the cafeteria. The costumes were amazing this year!

Though Halloween is not just about wearing costumes! How could we celebrate Halloween without the tradition of trick-or-treating? All of the students were so enthusiastic about trick-or-treating during lunch and snack times. Teachers were prepared with loads of candy for each trick-or-treater. It was a very special treat to see the joy on each child’s face as we put candy into their bags. Please remind your child to brush his or her teeth very well this week!

Parties are always more exciting when friends are together! That’s why we got the whole campus together for the Halloween Parade. After a full day of trick-or-treating, the teachers and students marched through the hallway with their amazing costumes while judges looked for the most eye-catching designs. The students with the scariest, funniest, and most creative costumes will be awarded prizes in the coming weeks.

After the parade, the highly anticipated Halloween Carnival started. While the students marched around, the teachers used their superpowers to turn classrooms into playgrounds—just like magicians. Each classroom showcased different Halloween-themed games and activities for the students to explore and play. The Pumpkin Patch Walk and Monster Shot activities were crowded with first grade students, while second grade had a Spider Web Crawl for those who wanted to test their flexibility, and a Ghoulish Game room for brave students. In third grade, the Spooky Bootcamp activity tested students’ endurance and courage, while the Pumpkin Extravaganza inspired students’ creativity. Teachers from fourth grade prepared traditional Halloween bingo and their annual Haunted Wax Museum. These activities challenged their knowledge, agility, and courage. Last but not least, fifth grade hosted the Ping-Pong Pumpkin Race and an exquisite corpse-themed game to test the fitness and painting skills of the students. Walking through the hallways, you could hear the excitement and happiness of the students celebrating such a fun holiday.

While enjoying the Halloween party, the kids not only enjoyed the company of their friends and the fun games, but also gained a deeper understanding of the holiday. Each activity allowed them to learn and play. Although they were sad when the day came to an end, they are now looking forward to our next celebration!
