Grade 6: The Chinese Cultural Week

October 29, 2019

On October 25th, teachers and students of 6th grade celebrated Chinese Cultural Week in the middle school building. Students and teachers wore traditional Chinese clothes or dresses to “travel back in time.”

Chinese Cultural Week is held once a year, and everyone wears an outfit that was worn by Chinese people a long time ago. “The clothes are wonderful,” said Ms. Kersey. “During cultural week, the hallway of the third floor becomes so colorful. It’s pretty fun to look at each other’s clothes as we walk by,” described Christy, one of the participants in cultural week.

Every teacher and student wore different kinds of clothes. Many girls wore a qi pao, a dress for Chinese women, which has become a model for national dress culture. Boys wore clothes that resembled a Chinese emperor, poet, or even a general.

Throughout this experience, students were able to understand more about Chinese history, as well as its culture.
