Grade 4 Chinese Project: Stories in Old Buildings

October 27, 2019

Before the National Day holiday, the Grade 4 Chinese group assigned a “special project" to the native Chinese students. They were required to visit an old building in Shanghai during the holiday and research relevant information about it. They researched the history of the old building (including the age, builder, historical background and any special events), and discovered the changes that happened throughout the years. The project aims to deepen the students' understanding and love of the city.

The project was due in week 8. The teachers of the Chinese group selected excellent projects and displayed them on the wall in a hallway. The students chose Jinjiang Hotel, Moller Villa, Wukang Building, the Small Red Building of China Record Company, and others. The stories of the old buildings were shown with both words and pictures, revealing the students' love for our city. In addition to posters, students were also encouraged to use clips or iMovie to present their project in a more vivid way.

The project not only aroused the students’ interest in the old buildings and the history of Shanghai but was also widely appreciated by the parents.
