Grade7-8: Field Trip
On October 20, 2019, the 7th and 8th graders of SHSID went on a trip to visit two famous universities of Shanghai. The 7th graders visited Fudan University, while 8th graders visited the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
For the trip to be meaningful, it was necessary to understand the history of the two universities. The History Museum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which displayed many valuable relics, pictures, and documents of historical epochs, fully explained the development of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and how it becomes the home school to many great scientists, writers and pioneers.
The Library of Qian Xuesen was also a place worth visiting. The library exhibited many valuable documents, pictures, data, and collections of books. Stepping past the big stone with the words “ Qian Xuesen Library” and into the building, students were amazed by the huge amount of manuscripts that stood neatly inside the exhibition by Qian Xuesen. Afterwards, students visited the four main exhibitions of the library and understood the development of atom bombs, hydrogen bombs and satellites.
Meanwhile, 7th graders stepped inside Fudan University and had a visit through the history of Fudan. The 7th graders visited the statue of Chairman Mao, whostood tall and straight. Students also visited the famous Guanghua building. The old school gate of Fudan University gives students a better understanding of Fudan University’s history. The Fudan “Nanjing Road”, filled with noise and excitement, brings students pleasing joy, as if in the real Nanjing Road. The 7th graders also visited many other famous places in the campus. This trip to Fudan University let students experienced the life in University, and gives students a better understanding of life beyond SHSID.
Through today's visit to two famous Chinese universities, the students infiltrated a comprehensive academic atmosphere, learned the great deeds of many Chinese scientists, understood the cultural background of the University, and also improved everyone's understanding of Chinese culture.
