Grade 4-5:Lecture on Garbage classification

October 25, 2019

During the Personal Growth period on October 24th, students had a lecture on garbage classification from Ms. Zhou Meifeng. She is the Secretary General of Shanghai Feilin Public Welfare Development Center, an overseas master, second-class psychological consultant, Leading Figure of Qingpu and founder of Environmental Protection Youth Group. She has many years of experience in public welfare and environmental protection.

To start, Ms. Zhou explained why Shanghai is promoting garbage classification through some data and vivid examples. With the garbage we produce every day, we can pile up a Jinmao Mansion in one week. In order to keep sustainable development and reduce the difficulty of garbage disposal, garbage classification must be carried out.

Then Ms. Zhou reviewed the garbage classification standard. "Glass, metal, plastic, paper and clothes" are recyclable. Things like batteries, fluorescent lamps and tablets are harmful waste. Wet garbage will rot in a short period of time, and the rest is dry garbage. In addition, Ms. Zhou also introduced two quick ways. One way is to look up in the official WeChat account of Shanghai municipal government or use the small program created by the Cityscape Bureau. The other way is to think about what Peppa Pig would do with the waste. The children showed a strong interest in the latter way.

Finally, Ms. Zhou called on children to be practitioners, and supervisors of garbage classification.
