Grade 8:Powerlong Museum Service Learning Team First Activity

October 22, 2019

9:40 AM of October 19th, eight students from SHSID grade 8 gathered and waited in anticipation before the gates of the Powerlong Art Museum for the opening hours. They are members of the Powerlong Museum Service Learning group, here to volunteer at the museum for the entire day.

Ten o’clock sharp, the museum gates were unlocked. A museum employee quickly led the students through exhibition halls 8 and 9. Inside the exhibition halls, art in multiple forms of media, created by a group of artists, musicians, and engineers (MOTSE) were displayed. The entire exhibition was a fantastic arrangement of light and shadow, of color and form, creating immersive scenes of virtual reality. The students’ job was to introduce the exhibition, maintain security, protect the displayed pieces of artwork. The volunteers were dedicated to their work; in events of children disruption, the volunteers informed parents to stop inappropriate behavior in time.

Time flies. Soon, it was time for the museum close for the day. Volunteering and helping in the Powerlong Museum was a valuable experience for everyone. Here, more was learned about how to communicate with people, greater senses of responsibility were developed, and more was understood about modern art. The school and the students look forward to having more members of the Powerlong Museum Service Learning group contribute to the museum, and become more experienced individuals at the same time.
