Grade 9: PTSA Meeting
On October 11th, 2019, the PTSA meeting for the freshman students took place in the new ZhenTao Building meeting room. The PTSA stands for the Parent Teacher Student Association, composing of student representatives, parent representatives, and the teachers coordinating them. The PTSA meeting was broken into three parts: 1) SHSID and 9th grade activities, 2) Academics and Subjects, and 3) Major activities this semester.
There have been a variety of activities for the new freshman students in their first month of high school. SHSID has introduced face scanning technology for all students and parents (if they apply for it) to increase the security for students and to make student life in the 2019 school year more efficient. In addition, students have been introduced to the new Black Board (BB) system in which scores, homework, and activities are given; the new Cialfo system in which college applications, visits, etc. are announced; the new SHSID windtalker system in which college visits and fairs are shown. The Peer Advisors (PA) and Associate of Student Body (ASB) have finished their elections. At last, the teacher announced that the annual G9 through G12 Sports Meet will be on October 17th.
Moreover, students are being introduced to new subjects and programs this year. In the Project-Based Learning Program, 9th graders learn core skills instead of information from a textbook. The Academy Program encourages the 9th grader students to learn and attain interdisciplinary skills. New STEM information has also been announced. Over the course of the month, the SHSID-SHS bilingual debate (first round) has taken place.
Finally, the teachers announced the major events that will take place this semester. These include the Science Fair, which will take place on October 30th, and subject days, like IT (BITDAY), where students present projects showing their understanding of the related subjects. Other important dates include the field trip on November 13th and the English Speech Competition on November 27th. There are also exciting Christmas activities that will take place on December 11th.
After all the information was given to these student and parent representatives, the first 9th grade PTSA meeting was concluded successfully.
