Grade 9: Assembly - There’s More to Life Than School

October 11, 2019

On Oct. 8th, 2019, high school freshmen and their teachers gathered once again for their usual morning assembly before 1st period in Zhen Tao Building’s B1 lecture hall. Every assembly has been exciting but stressful, since a different topic about schoolwork would be presented each time.

However, on this particular morning, the presenter broke the ice by starting the personal growth lecture with a relatable question: what was something that you actually enjoyed in the past month of your life that was not school-related? When everyone heard the question, they immediately loosened up and realized that every single person in the lecture hall shared similar feelings. Nobody wanted to tell themselves that their life is nothing more than school because life is colorful in many other ways. Nobody would like to limit their dreams within the borders of school because humans have individual paths they would like to pursue. The most memorable moments in life are often not about school but about who you are as an individual. Everyone at some point in their lives had experienced true joy, which is something that actually made them laugh, and which may or may not be about school.

The purpose of this morning assembly was not to remind students to get back on track after a week off from school, but to share with them that it’s okay to feel stressed out. However, they should learn to calm down once in a while because there is more to life than just school.
