Grade 4-7: ASB Election - The Stage for Great Ideas
On September 19, 2019, the ASB elections were held. The fourth and fifth grades each have four ASB groups: Reader, Poster Designer, News Reporter, and Peer Support in Grade 5, and Activity Planner, Poster Designer, News Reporter, and Peer Support in Grade 4. Activity Planners organize and coordinate student events. Readers regularly recommend books to students. Poster Designers are in charge of making elaborate posters to promote each event. News Reporters record interesting moments and experiences. Lastly, members of the Peer Support group help teachers manage behavior.
Each class selected four student representatives as new ASB members after the registration, presentation, and voting process. Every student who participated in the election produced a self-promotional poster in A4 format and gave a three-minute speech in class. They carefully shared their reasons for participating in the election, as well as their ambitions and goals. Their ideas and suggestions were given to the audience to persuade students to vote for them. Many of them asked questions to the audience and made the audience feel involved in the speeches. Some of them spoke vehemently, sharing their personal experience with the students. Others made the audience laugh by telling them interesting ideas and stories. Though there are wins and losses in every election, every speaker should be proud of their courage and ambition!
The students from Grade 6 and Grade 7 also welcomed their long-awaited ASB election on September 19th. A total of 16 students from Grade 6 and 21 students from Grade 7 participated in the election. Each prepared an A4-sized poster and a short, unique video. Some videos were funny while others were serious. During YD class, students watched the videos and considered each candidate carefully. All of the videos were great, so the students had a hard time deciding who to vote for. The students each filled out a voting sheet that would ultimately decide who would get into the ASB. After all videos had been watched, the auditorium voted. We now eagerly await the results!
