Grade 8:Do Physics—Exploring Physics through Experiments

September 20, 2019

A new after-school club, named as ‘Do Physics’, as of the third week of 2019 academic year is open to 8thgrade students at the lab building. As a supplementary course to the existing lecture-based physics course, this one-year course is aimed to provide students more chances of studying physics by conducting experiments, and exploring the physical world like a real physicist.

On the very first class yesterday, students were taught to use some measuring tools (e.g. vernier caliper, electric and double pan balance, graduated cylinder) to find the density of regular and irregular blocks, and were guided to create water density rainbows with salt. These activities help strengthen students’ understanding about density by hands-on experiences. In the following days, more corresponding experiments related to grade 8 physics classes will be introduced and designed.
