Grade 11:8 Students Attended MITMUNC and Won Awards
On August 23rd, 2019, 8 students from SHSID attended the third annual M.I.T. Model United Nations Conference in Shanghai, China. Embracing the international spirit of the conference, the students represented nations ranging from North Korea and Uganda to Myanmar. Throughout the three days of conference, each of the SHSID delegates represented their countries’ complicated political stances and delivered cohesive solutions to global issues such as climate change and refugee crises. The delegates, assigned to 6 different committees, performed exceptionally among 91 other student representatives at the conference, which included delegates from Shanghai, Beijing, and even the United States. The excellent performances of the SHSID delegates were well recognized by the MIT students who chaired each of the 6 committees, winning numerous awards for their efforts. In the end, they received the highest possible honor in Model United Nations, the Best Delegate awards from 5 of the 6 committees that they attended, as well as 3 Outstanding Delegate awards.
In participating in MITMUNC 2019, the student delegates had a great opportunity to improve their speaking, research, and negotiation abilities, as well as deepen their understanding of global issues.
This coming December, the Oxford MUN will be held at SHSID and all are welcome to join us.
