Pudong G2 Science: Experiment Time!
During our 2nd week in science class, 2nd grade students were finally able to move from learning about the scientific method to actually using the scientific method during our soda experiments! They not only loved this hands-on experience, but they also learned a lot about how their diet can affect their dental health.
One of Grade 2’s soda experiments, “Soda: The Teeth Destroyer”, taught the students about the effects soda can have on their teeth. “Does soda affect how strong your teeth are?” “Does it affect the color of your teeth?” All the students were able to discover the answers to these questions by using an egg and watching what happened to the shell overnight. By using their newly learned inquiry skills and the scientific method, students were also able to test their hypothesis, record their findings, and draw conclusions like real scientists. The students had so much fun that they already started brainstorming future experiments they would like to do.
With the students’ newly acquired skills and their growing creativity, they are now ready to get answers to the questions they have about the world around them. It will be wonderful to see what our young SHSID scientists discover next!
