High School English Department Lecture: The Benefits of Employing Multiple Teaching Methods
On the morning of Friday, June 14th, the entire high school English department attended the final lecture delivered by Professor Zou of East China Normal University. In his observations of two 11th grade physics classes and two 9th grade English classes, Professor Zou found that the teaching approaches taken by both pure content teachers and content/language teachers play a valuable role in student learning. Professor Zou concluded that English teachers should incorporate both long and discursive discourse in their classes as well as both ‘top-down’ and ‘bottom-up’ approaches to target different areas of language learning. The English teachers then asked a variety of follow-up questions that prompted further discussion and thanked Professor Zou for his wonderful insight.
