Puxi Grade 5: Think Deeply, Read Aloud
5th grade’s non-native Chinese speaking students participated in the Read Aloud Competition during their Chinese Class time this week. The four non-native Chinese classes met in room 112 of the Middle School building at Puxi Campus. The students showed off their Chinese speaking and teamwork skills in this Read Aloud Competition.
This Read Aloud Competition included both group and individual performances. Practice before this competition was required, and the students also practiced in class. There were six representatives that read their story or poem at the finals in the individual performance category.
In the group performance category, the whole class read together. Each class had a different story to tell, and the students read as a team, with roles for every person. The group performances also required lots of practice, which included reading the story in class and practicing every day at home.
Ms. Gao, the 5th grade Chinese teacher said, “The Read Aloud Competition is a class activity that encourages students to enjoy reading aloud, and to share their favorite stories with the others.”
This Read Aloud Competition has allowed non-native students to practice their Chinese speaking skills as well as onstage performance. These will be essential to make students become better public speakers someday.
