Pudong Grade 2: Be an Earth Protector!
To make the Earth a better place to live, we should not only care about the beautiful side of it, but the ‘not so nice’ side as well. Trash doesn’t sound like something related to beauty, but it is really important to our environment and daily lives.
At SHSID, recycling has always been encouraged. All of the students know that we should recycle paper to save trees, but how should we recycle electronic products? Grade two students from Pudong campus went to the Xin Jinqiao Recycling Station to learn about this.
On the first floor of the exhibition, the students noticed that there are many forms of electronic waste products in our lives, such as old televisions, refrigerators, computers, etc. If this kind of waste isn’t handled in the right way, it could result in a lot of negative impacts on the environment and also on human beings. With great curiosity about how to handle electronic waste, students were taken around the factory to see the process with their own eyes. They saw computer screens rolled onto an assembly line and passed on to another special workshop. After that, the screens are disassembled into different types of trash. Parts of them are still useful and valuable, while other may even be poisonous. The students were very surprised by how complicated the whole recycling process is.
After touring the factory, students tried to put the different trash they brought with them into the correct trash bins. The whole experience gave a great lesson to the students: it is not easy to get rid of trash and a better solution is to not make more of it. Our planet will be beautiful if all of the students grow up to be Earth protectors!
