Grade 8: Field trip to Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden

May 15, 2019

The sun’s bright rays hit students as they clamor for the entrance to Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden.

On May 10th, the whole of Eighth Grade went to the Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden for their Spring field trip. Although the bus ride to the destination was quite long, about one and a half hours, it was definitely worth it.

As the students entered Mother Nature’s glorious arms, they were each given a small pamphlet with questions. They were asked to complete it as quickly as possible, and if they were fast enough, they would win a special prize! Each group elected a group leader and went into different botanical indoor plant displays, such as the Tropical Plants Display Zone. One of the things they had to face was the responsibilities of their group members, with no one running off by themselves. Inside these displays, vibrant flowers sprang from the fertile soil, splashes of color infuse in the flowers petals while leaves on trees glowed bright green and dark. Besides the flowers in the indoor display zones, there were also display cases of carnivorous plants - a thing that few botanical gardens do. On display, small tags provided a description of each plant. These helped students to understand more about Mother Nature’s greenery.

After quickly finishing this interesting activity, students were free to explore the rest of the Garden or be entertained with their own devices. The rest of the Garden was just as beautiful as what were seen indoors, if not, even more magnificent. There were several creeks, lakes and rivers that wind below intricately designed bridges. Flowers blossom over the sidewalks, some winding onto trees, adding color to the dull tree-bark. Many students decided to go out for a walk as the weather and the environment outside was too glorious. Soft breezes brushed against faces, making them refreshed and energized. Some students, however, remained indoors to eat their packed lunch.

Time had began to dissolve; as quickly as they had come, the students of SHSID had to depart.
