Grade 6: Long Rope Jumping Competition

May 5, 2019

After days of rain, the sun finally appeared on April 28th. It was perfect weather for the Long Rope Jumping Competition!

In the past few weeks, students relentlessly practiced jumping rope during recess and lunch time to get themselves ready for the competition. Although the practice was exhausting, every student was eager to improve their skills as much as possible, with the hope to make their own class champions. The competition marked the time to show the results of their hard work and to test their teamwork and stamina.

Moments before the competition, students crowded outside of the Art Building. Everyone appeared to be full of energy and confidence and were ready to compete. Ms. Shirley counted down from three to announce the start. Students jumped, one after another, just like dolphins swimming in the waves. When jump-ropers fell, their classmates maintained their grit and did not complain. They encouraged each other to hold their spirit and focus on jumping. The homeroom teachers cheered for their students and were so proud of their class. Although sweat was building on both the jump-ropers and rope-swingers, students kept trying their best to jump the fastest until the end. The number of jumps made between classes were really close and until the last minute, nobody was able to tell which class would be the champion. Finally, Class 6(5), with 283 jumps in three minutes, won.

Every student enjoyed the game and was proud of the performance of their class. Being the champion was great, no doubt, but even greater was that this competition gave the students the opportunity to work as a team and to pursue excellence together.
