Grade 8:Jump Rope Competition

April 29, 2019

This year’s jump rope competition took place on April 25, 2019, under a brilliantly cloudy sky when the temperatures were still high. As students trailed out of the school building and out onto the blacktop, the air was practically electric with excitement. The students were all eager to participate and watch the competition take place; it was guaranteed to be a good show. Once everyone was outside, Ms. Shen started with the awards ceremony for students and classes. Once all the awards had been passed out, twenty minutes of practice began before the official jump rope competition. The classes quickly got to practicing for the competition, and each class assigned two students to swing the ropes. The blacktop quickly exploded into a flurry of activity: students leaping over ropes, teachers convincing unwilling students to join the lineup, and onlookers cheering on the jumpers. After practicing, the official competition began. First, classes 8(1) to 8(6) raced against time to see who could jump the most in two minutes. Then, classes 8(7) to 8(11) followed their lead and students leaped over the ropes as quickly as they could. Though temperatures were high and stress levels even higher, the students persevered and fought against these obstacles to compete to be number one. All of the students were exhausted after the competition was over, and it seemed like the hours they put into practicing for these two minutes were well worth it. Every single class did exceptionally well in the competition, with 8(9) in third, 8(4) in second, and 8(5) in first. The three classes who achieved the highest number of jumps received extra pizzas for their effort. All of the students then headed back to their classrooms to enjoy the pizzas they earned this semester and for some well-deserved rest.
