Grades 1-4: Chinese Culture Week Successfully Concluded
April 26 marked the last day of Chinese Culture Week in the primary section. The students and teachers wore various kinds of traditional Chinese clothes to celebrate. Early in the morning, the teachers who greeted the children at the entrance took bookmarks that had poems written on them. If the children could pick up the corresponding lines, they would get a bookmark as a souvenir of Chinese Culture Week.
The students in first grade did a presentation to share their work in Chinese class. They designed bags, pillowcases, fans, and T-shirts that needed to have elements of the Forbidden City. In second grade, each student created a picture related to the solar terms with poems. The students wore antique clothes and did presentations on solar terms in Chinese class.
In third grade, the students guessed poets from introductions told by others. Each student chose a poet and prepared an introduction. They dressed up as the poet to introduce themselves in Chinese class, so the others could guess who they were. Everyone rushed to guess which poet each other was dressed as. It helped them learn much more about Chinese poets.
Grade 4 students sang to celebrate this day. After the preliminary contest held in each class, 12 groups of students participated in the final round of the Best Chinese Song Singing Contest. The final result was judged both by the fourth-grade teachers and the parents of each class in grade 4. All the singers gave us amazing performances, which made the atmosphere warm and fantastic. Everyone had a great time enjoying the beautiful songs and performances.
During this year’s Chinese Culture Week, students learned about Chinese traditional culture beyond textbooks, through various activities. They experienced the charm of Peking Opera, understood poetry deeply, and increased their interest in singing Chinese songs. Chinese Culture Week ended with love for Chinese traditional culture.
