Grades 1-4 Chinese Culture Week Series: Chinese Poetry Competition

April 28, 2019

As the old saying goes, one who is filled with knowledge always behaves with elegance. During the Chinese classes on April 25th, the third and fourth graders had their third Chinese Poetry Competition in the Primary Section Auditorium. Unlike last year, teachers and 6 students from Yifu Primary School were also invited to join this competition.

Every class elected a champion of poetry to attend the finals of the Chinese Poetry Competition. We named all six teams after different topics related to Chinese lyre music.

In each team, a third grader and a fourth grader worked with one student from Yifu Primary School. Altogether there were six teams, each answering questions in order to win the prize. Each team had one chance to turn to their teachers or classmates for help. All the contestants performed coolly and confidently. They also wowed the audience with their broad range of poetry knowledge.

At the end, the winning teams were awarded by Principal Bao, Ms. Pan, and Ms.Yue from Yifu Primary School. Ms. Pan gave the closing speech. She was deeply impressed by the enthusiasm students showed for poetry.

Grade 1 students also had great activities on this day. G1 teachers organized different games for their students. The only way to move on to the next level was to answer the question about Chinese poetry correctly. All students participated with passion. They learned a lot of Chinese poetry from the different games.

2nd graders continued learning about the twenty-four solar terms in China. They presented the “Story of Twenty-Four Solar Terms” on their iPads with their team members.

Even more colorful activities related to Chinese culture await.
