Grade 11: Job Shadow Day – Ericsson & Meilong Sancun

April 25, 2019

During the short vacation after midterms, some teachers and G11 students took advantage of the precious job shadow day opportunity at Ericsson R&D Center and Meilong Sancun.

Meilong Sancun in Xuhui District is now an exemplary neighborhood in terms of waste reduction, recycling, and green culture. The neighborhood proudly hosts the Green Housewife Environmental Protection Instruction Center: a nonprofit private organization promoting community gardens. Director of G11&12, Liu Qin, Head of G11, Gu Ying, and several grade 11 students visited a series of environmental protection projects, including garbage sorting, waste recycling, cycling supermarkets, enzyme production, and square foot gardens. A member of EcoCap reflected, “Although the target group for these activities is mainly housewives, the content of many activities is worth emulating. For example, it is plausible for us to make containers and decorations with discarded packaging.”

In order to enable students to better adapt to the workplace in the future, SHSID has been committed to building educational collaborations between the school and respected companies. On April 19th, Ericsson Shanghai R&D Center provided internships for five SHSID students in three positions: project manager, line manager, and communication officer. The goal of the program was to give students a taste of what life would be like after college by giving the students a whole day of experiences as trainee interns. The students learned about the functions of the corresponding positions, attended meetings, and even completed some of the tasks. After a whole day of mentorship, the students felt more enlightened about the future choices they would have to make regarding their majors and potential occupations. Furthermore, they felt better prepared to face the challenges that lie ahead.

Through these diversified extracurricular activities, SHSID students can cultivate their interests and talents with competitiveness and a high sense of commitment towards the community at large.
