Grade 11: Volunteer Work at Xingyu Kindergarten – A Special Music Event
On the afternoon of March 26th, student volunteers from SHSID participated in a special music event held by Xingyu Kindergarten. A Hang musician traveled thousands of miles from Ukraine to Shanghai and shared his original music with the children and parents in Xingyu. The Hang is a musical instrument constructed from two half-shells of deep drawn, nitrided steel sheets glued together at the rim, leaving the inside hollow and creating the shape of a convex lens.
After listening to the wonderful music, the children were quiet, and the parents closed their eyes slowly in the empty melody, feeling the peace and relief brought by the music. At the end of the performance, the musician warmly welcomed the children to play the Hang, and parents asked him many questions about the education of children. The musician believes that every child has his own small world and is a unique individual. As a parent, he does not need to interfere with the children's ideas or worry too much about their growth path. As a musician, he thinks that music is a non-verbal communication tool and it plays an encouraging role in children's growth.
SHSID volunteers not only appreciated the exotic style of musical instruments, but participated in exchanges and discussions. This activity also inspired the volunteers to continue carrying out more meaningful volunteer activities in Xingyu for the future. This music event greatly benefited the volunteers.
